Gardening is one of the most peaceful and satisfying hobbies. Somewhere in the bottom of our hearts, all of us have a little knack for growing something. In today’s world, when the prices of food are shooting up, it is wise to grow some of the veggies at your home.  So how do you create a little kitchen garden for your abode?

  1. Square foot gardening

Growing your own tomatoes, lettuce, cucumber, carrots takes an interesting and organized angle with square foot gardening. Build a raised bed in the sunny side of your patio, balcony, porch or deck and grows your own plump, juicy veggies and salads which are high on nutrients.  For a 4×4 feet square garden, divide sections and grow cabbage, pepper, broccoli, lettuce as per your requirements.

Great for: Beans, Broccoli, Brussels sprouts, peppers, eggplant, Cabbage and cauliflower


     2. One-pot vegetable gardening

So what if you don’t have space for a full-fledged garden? Grow your veggies in just one pot! Take a water trough which is galvanized and plant your tomatoes, chilly peppers, basil together- perfect for making pasta at home. Just make sure to give each plant ample space to grow. Ensure that the container has drainage holes and it should be around roughly 2 feet tall by 2 feet wide by 3 feet long.

Great for: Tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce, carrots, radishes, peppers, eggplants, onions




3. Yummy gardening-Edible plants in your boxes

Plant your culinary herbs in neat boxes. Place these stylish boxes 5-6 in number with a measurement of about 6 feet long, 2 feet wide, and 1½ feet high. One can grow small crops, such as basil, lettuce, and sage, in the centers of each bed. The good part about it is that the covered storage space at the ends doubles as seating. The beige-gold gravel covers the ground and it’s extremely easy to keep it clean with a rake.

Great for: Tomatoes, carrots, and tubers, build or buy a deeper box. Spices such as oregano, basil, and chives also grow well.
